Upfront Password Protection Options in Gather Digital

With all the options below, the organizer can always manage/assign new passwords in the Online Dashboard throughout the process if needed. You and your help desk team are in full control. Passwords should be at least 8 characters in length and are case sensitive.

You have three primary options, which are outlined in detail below.

  • You define a single password for your app
  • You assign each user a unique password
  • Users set their own passwords

These options are outlined in detail below:

  1. You define a single password for your app.
    You decide on one password that all users, in conjunction with their email address on the attendee list, may use to log in to the app.

    Advantages

    • Easy to communicate
    • Fewer steps for user
    • Users could still create their own password through the app

    Disadvantages

    • Less secure
    • User has to remember an externally-defined password (though they only have to log in once)
    • We cannot support this option if you have messaging or profiles, as this is not secure. Anyone could use another person’s email address to log in and see messages, edit their profile etc.
  2. You assign each user a unique password.
    On an import or within the system, you assign a password for each user. This is more appropriate for small, high-touch events.

    Advantages

    • More secure than Option 1
    • Fewer steps for user
    • Users could still create their own password through the app

    Disadvantages

    • User has to remember an externally-defined password (though they only have to log in once)
    • Harder to communicate/manage
  3. Users set their own passwords.
    Before being able to access the app, users must go through a process to set it. They must have access to their email account during this process, as this is how we verify the user's identity.

    Users can set their own password by:

    1. OPTION 1: Opening app, entering the email with which they registered for the event, and selecting “Email Password”
      • Users receive email from service@gatherdigital.com that contains a link that they click on to create password (six characters or greater)
      • Users access the app and enter their email and the created password
    2. OPTION 2: Clicking on a hyperlink provided to them by you, the organizer in the email announcing the app
      • Users click on the link and are taken to a Gather Digital website that is also branded for the customer organization/event.
      • Users enter their email address and select “Email Password”
      • Users check their email inbox for an email from service@gatherdigital.com that contains a link that they click on to create a password with six or more characters
      • Users access the app and enter their email and the created password

    Advantages

    • Secure
    • Should be easier for user to remember
    • Easy to communicate
    • Easy to manage

    Disadvantages

    • More steps for user
